Royalty Pharma plc announced July 22 that it acquired a portion of Neurimmune's royalty interest in AstraZeneca's cliramitug for up to $425 million, with $125 million payable at closing.

The transaction structure calls for the $125 million upfront payment with an additional $300 million contingent on achievement of unspecified milestones. The deal expands Royalty Pharma's portfolio of royalty-bearing assets in the biopharmaceutical sector.

Cliramitug represents AstraZeneca's entry into a therapeutic category that has drawn significant development investment across the industry. Neurimmune's retention of partial royalty interest signals the Swiss biotech's confidence in the asset's commercial trajectory while monetizing existing economics.

For Royalty Pharma, the transaction diversifies its exposure to development-stage assets and extends its revenue visibility into undisclosed therapeutic indication areas. The deal demonstrates continued capital deployment strategy by the royalty aggregator, which monetizes future cash flows from pharmaceutical and biotech innovations.

The acquisition underscores the financial market's appetite for royalty-backed structures as risk mitigation tools amid heightened uncertainty in drug development timelines and regulatory outcomes.

Royalty Pharma's strategy of acquiring partial economic interests from original stakeholders has positioned the company as a major player in the royalty securitization ecosystem.
